In book one of the Changelings Laura Donahue believes she's as human as everyone around her. When she discovers shifters aren't just myths and fables but really exist in the world, she sets out to meet them.
Laura discovers their enemy, the Shayatin, evil humans who steal magic from shifters have targeted large shifter communities. The last thing she expects when she brings them valuable intelligence, was running into shifter law. A law that states, if a human finds out about shifters, they are either killed or must find a shifter mate—fast.
The method her new friends use to find her a mate has her blushing. Will one be found in time or will her new friends have to follow the laws and end her life?
Excerpt
Everything went as planned. When their dad called around seven to check in, Aaron went ahead and told him what they were doing. Having dad in on the plan made sure their mom didn’t come home until they were ready for the big reveal. Listening to his eldest explain what he and he brother had cooked up and how much they had already accomplished, Doug Donahue nearly burst with love and pride in his family. He rubbed his chest with tears in his eyes as he hung up the phone.
Aunt Carrie had a friend that was a painter so she called her up and cajoled her into coming over to the house and helping with the floral mural for one wall in the room. By the time their dad pulled his car into the driveway a little after one that afternoon, the room was dry and all the furniture was loaded. Uncle Matt had ridden hard on the younger ‘helpers’ while Aunt Carrie had taken Aaron and Steven to the store to spend his car money on the extras needed to make his sister’s room perfect. A rug, a lamp, sheets, and bedding plus a crowd of stuffed animals and dolls later, her room looked like girly heaven.
Carrie gave herself a mental shake. She saw what these big strapping boys were doing and only hoped Laura didn’t turn into a tomboy. She didn’t think her brothers would like that. They obviously had already decided the type of sister they were going to have. All she knew was it was going to be a hoot watching that baby girl wrap them all around her tiny fingers.
The homecoming was all Aaron and Steve expected. Their mom cried when she saw what they had done. By now they had learned the difference between happy and sad tears. They all fussed over Laura, even Evan, who’d been superseded as the baby of the family, was happy to see her and spent almost an hour making faces as he tried to get her to smile.
Unbeknownst to the Donahue family, this one little girl was going to forever change their lives.

The story was enjoyable overall. Just ..... unrealistic. I know it's already unrealistic, but I'm talking about those books that are so weLloyd written that for those few hours you are engrossed into another world, you are sucked in and it's like everything from having shifters etc seems almost normal. Love those books. This unfortunately was not one.
I enjoyed the overall story, just felt this needed to go back to the drawing boaRd with an editor, or maybe a better one. A lot of the conversations and actions didn't have that flow of normalcy and casualness, I felt like I was watching a bad moview where the actors are stilted and awkward.
heroine is portrayed as a super smart woman in a wheelchair. Great I liked that difference, having not ever read this before. But there were times where she seemed almost fragile and a bit of an air head. I've read books where super smart women, needy even have quirky interesting personalities and hilarious humor....yeah, this wasn't the case here and I don't know why I expected it to be.
Hero - not much to say about him, because she came off to ME as an after thought. There were so many details from her being a changeling and stuff about shifters and how she can change into a dragon that he seemed like a side story. When I think about the story, the flow of the book didn't go along smoothly. It was like many disjointed parts fit together awkwardly. Many parts just didn't fit.
It was weird, but if you ignore some bits the story was not bad at all. I like the angle author was coming from even if the result didn't work out as smoothly. It was interesting.

Laura Secret The Changelings Book 1 edition by Lucy Kelly Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I loved the girl, certainly a fighter, incredible story, but I knew that from the excerpt. I loved the book, and I highly recommended to have fun and get lost in the story.
I can't wait to read the next one. I hope it comes out soon.
Laura's Secret is the first in what I hope is a long series of books. Sexy Alpha shifters, magic, Changlings, and a brave genius heroine all within a fantastical new world to immerse yourself in. Lucy Kelly has once again written a great story that I hope will have a sequel in the near future.
Omg i loved it !! Please come back we miss you lucy !!!!!😭😭😭😭😭 i need my changeling fix lol . however all in all I love your books thank you for all your hard work and hope your well =)
So here goes. Yeah!!!finally a book on shifters that has broken the mold, cudo' s to this amazing author. What a fantastic imagination, the whole world she has created is simple delightful. This is a must read, no stereo type shifters here, and ever one worked together, no real violence just INTREAGING stuff. Couldn't put it down. I hope there is a second book and soon that is my only request.
The heroine is portrayed as intelligent, but despite her inventions, came across as foolish. I don't know, it just read...off to me. The relationships seemed forced. And there is a pregnant woman drinking wine, and nothing is made of it. The writing just isn't fluid, characters are cardboard, and potentially interesting plot points are completely ignored. There are a ton of grammar mistakes, so it came across as amateur.
The first of the new series from Lucy Kelly, Laura's Secret did not disappoint in any way. Laura is a brilliant computer wiz who just happens to have some physical limitations that have kept her isolated while she was growing up. After learning shifters are real, she sets out to help them in their war of good versus evil. One of the things I most enjoyed was that the "true" villains aren't revealed yet. There's lots of room for future plot development and character introductions. You know the general idea of what's going to take place but don't know how the end result is going to be achieved. Which in my opinion is nicely done. I really loved this book. Its unique in its concept and as anyone who's read the HeVan series knows, this author can spin a tale (or tail LOL). I am so looking forward to the rest of the series. There's only one downside of reading a book the day it's released - it seems like FOREVER until the next one comes out.
Review by Georgianna Simpson
Laura’s Secret is an imaginative and wonderful new story by Lucy Kelly. It begins with her birth and the surprise for her family of seven brothers, who immediately used their own money to redecorate a bedroom for their only sister, giving up one of theirs until renovations could be made.
The first chapter begins sixteen years later with Laura grown, but still paralyzed; she’s also allergic to sunlight, so lives in an apartment in the basement. Laura leads a very strange and protected life since the death of their mother a few years earlier. She’s a computer programmer and game engineer, who unknown to her family, has her own company and is a multi-millionaire.
Being incredibly intelligent and computer genius, she’s learned that shifters and many magical folk are not mythical, but real. This could put her in great danger, but she’s got an incredible plan in place.
That’s the setup, I won’t do spoilers…this is a magical and wonderful story that needs to be read and enjoyed for yourself. Author Lucy Kelly has built a magnificent and exciting world of creatures and magic, complete with evil competitors.
The story is well thought out, the characters are complete and you learn to love (or hate) each of them. The writing is excellent. The romance is steamy, but not terribly graphic. The danger is realistic and the creatures are absolutely magnificent.
A thoroughly magical and enjoyable story, I highly recommend it!
